eCourier.co.uk says "Carbon Boooooo"
eCourier.co.uk, the world's first online courier company, has announced today that it has gone CarbonNeutral®. This means that eCourier has worked with The CarbonNeutral Company (TCNC) to offset its carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions through investment in several carbon-saving projects, including a sustainable forestry project in Leicestershire as well as renewable energy projects in New Zealand and the USA.
Tom Allason, CEO of eCourier said: "We are really proud to have become CarbonNeutral; however, this is just a starting point. We want our customers to be assured than an eCourier delivery will be the most environmentally responsible delivery they can make."
Jonathan Shopley, CEO of The CabronNeutral Company said: "Transport is one of the biggest producers of CO2, and we welcome this move by eCourier. The real positive is the action the company is taking to reduce emissions and the educational role they have with their customers. More companies should follow this lead."
eCourier's ongoing programme to reduce emissions will be conducted in conjunction with ECCM (Edinburgh Centre for Carbon Management), the science partner of TCNC. ECCM is currently producing a carbon audit to encompass all aspects of eCourier's business including power usage, supplier review, waste recycling, energy sources, intelligent lighting, and of course fuel emissions.
eCourier already has logistics' most efficient supply chain thanks to "Larry", the company's award-winning intelligent transportation system. Larry improves the efficiency of each individual eCourier by cutting so-called "dead" mileage through near perfect allocation of resource. In March 2006 eCourier took this one step further by collaborating with Oxygen, innovators in phosphate lithium-ion battery technology, to trial electric scooters with a view to replacing its current fleet of motorbikes. These trials will be continuing in 2007. In early 2007 eCourier will be announcing its ground breaking environmental strategy aimed at dramatically reducing the company's environmental impact and making eCourier the world's first Carbon Negative Transportation company, removing more carbon from the environment than it contributes.
