Operations Controller

Salary: £25,000 per annum

Position Summary

A position has become available for an experienced Operations controller to join eCourier’s Manchester team. This demanding role will be responsible for coordinating a fleet of drivers to make collections and deliveries of time sensitive consignments across the UK. This role also incorporates the preparation and monitoring of incoming and outgoing goods at our depot.

The successful candidate must hold a high level of concentration and attention to detail and the ability to understand and distribute varied information during critical and busy times. The role would dictate a flexible approach to both working hours and the candidate must have the ability to and interact with associates at all levels.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Allocations of collections and deliveries to couriers
  • Route planning as efficiently as possible, as well as arranging ad-hoc changes as required.
  • Communicating to drivers the relevant information appropriate to the consignment.
  • Allocate all customers bookings in line with the company guidelines.
  • Ensure customers are kept informed in relation to delays outside the normal company guidelines.
  • Ensure enough riders / drivers are available to complete all work as per company guidelines.
  • Monitor riders/drivers’ earnings to ensure the minimum turnover for low wages is maintained.
  • Promote a proactive attitude to the riders/drivers to ensure our company image is always maintained at the highest level.
  • Actively promote the development of new technology in line with customer needs.
  • Ensure a proactive approach to customer queries is taken and all are dealt with both quickly and efficiently.
  • Ensure all rider and controller queries are dealt with quickly and efficiently.
  • Assist with any depot, storage, distribution requirements.

Candidate Requirements

  • At least 3 years of controlling/transport operational experience.
  • Previous experience in freight or courier industry – ideally working with time sensitive deliveries.
  • Extensive knowledge of Manchester and wider north-west region, with a good general knowledge of the UK road network
  • Adaptable and able to perform well under pressure.
  • Well-developed prioritisation skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Can-do attitude

The hours for this role is 12 hours per day (including a one hour unpaid lunch break). The role will also be a 4 on 4 off shift pattern, which includes all public bank holidays, with overtime available both on weekends and weekdays. On site parking is available.

Experience:

  • Driving: 1 year (preferred)
  • Transport Operational: 2 years (preferred)
