Driving Towards A Greener Future - Net Zero

Sustainability Update 2025–2026: Strengthening Our Path to Net Zero

At eCourier, our journey to Net Zero continues to evolve. Over the past year, we have focused on strengthening the foundations of our sustainability programme, improving data quality, expanding emissions measurement, and turning insight into meaningful action.

Following the publication of the second edition of our Sustainability Playbook, FY 2024–2025 became our most complete and transparent emissions baseline to date. During 2025–2026, our focus has shifted from expanding measurement to embedding reduction planning and long-term decarbonisation across the business.

A More Complete Picture of Our Impact

One of the most significant milestones in our journey has been the expansion of our Scope 3 reporting. In addition to direct operational emissions (Scope 1) and purchased energy (Scope 2), we now measure key upstream categories, including:

  • Purchased Goods & Services
  • Capital Goods
  • Upstream Transportation & Distribution
  • Fuel & Energy-Related Activities
  • Employee Commuting
  • Waste & Water

This expanded coverage gives us a clearer understanding of where our largest environmental impacts sit, particularly across our supply chain, and allows us to prioritise reduction efforts where they matter most.

Importantly, this more comprehensive approach reflects improved visibility and transparency, rather than an increase in operational intensity.

Moving from Measurement to Reduction

With a stronger baseline now in place, 2025–2026 marks a transition from foundational reporting to structured reduction planning.

Key focus areas this year include:

Fleet & Transport

  • Continued expansion of electric and low-emission vehicles
  • Increased use of cargo bikes and ultra-low emission transport in urban areas
  • Improved fleet data tracking and route optimisation

Energy

  • Ongoing transition toward renewable electricity tariffs
  • Improved energy data capture and monitoring
  • Continued reduction of market-based Scope 2 emissions

Procurement & Supply Chain

  • Greater engagement with suppliers on carbon transparency
  • Transitioning from spend-based emissions calculations to more activity-based data, where available
  • Embedding low-carbon considerations into procurement decisions

Strengthening Data & Reporting

This year, we are also planning our sustainability reporting earlier in the reporting cycle, rather than after year-end, enabling:

  • More consistent and proactive data collection
  • Improved internal collaboration
  • Greater alignment with client expectations
  • Clearer visibility of the reduction progress throughout the year

Sustainability reporting is now an essential requirement for many of our clients and procurement frameworks. By investing in robust data, we ensure that we can respond confidently and transparently to these expectations.

Embedding Sustainability into Our Culture

Sustainability is not solely about carbon metrics; it is about behaviour, awareness, and shared responsibility.

Throughout 2025–2026, we are:

  • Expanding carbon literacy and internal sustainability awareness
  • Developing policies to support sustainable travel and commuting
  • Encouraging low-carbon behaviours across our workforce
  • Integrating environmental considerations into everyday operational decisions

Every action, from reducing waste in the office to choosing lower-emission transport options, contributes to our broader Net Zero ambition.

Looking Ahead to 2030 and Beyond

Our short-term targets remain clear:

  • Reduce Scope 1 emissions by 42%
  • Reduce Scope 2 emissions to zero
  • Reduce Scope 3 emissions by 42%
  • Transition toward 100% renewable electricity

With a more accurate baseline and clearer visibility of upstream impacts, we are better positioned than ever to pursue meaningful, science-aligned emissions reductions.

Achieving Net Zero by 2040 requires sustained effort, collaboration with suppliers and partners, and continued investment in innovation. The progress made over the past year strengthens our confidence in that pathway.

A Continued Commitment

Sustainability is not a one-time initiative; it is an ongoing commitment to improvement, transparency, and responsible growth.

As we move further into 2025–2026, we remain focused on:

  • Reducing emissions across our value chain
  • Strengthening supplier engagement
  • Supporting our clients’ sustainability ambitions
  • Building a resilient, low-carbon logistics business

We will continue to share updates as our journey progresses.

Together, we are building a more sustainable future for our team, our clients, and the communities we serve.
